The Human Memory

The human memory is a funny thing.

I recently came upon a person who sees the past completely differently than I do, insisting that it was “A” when I know it was “B.”

I cannot be sure whether we block “bad” memories instinctively and subconsciously as a protection mechanism or do we consciously do so in order to absolve ourselves of any guilt we would otherwise engender. Or is it merely a function of our point of view? Are there other possibilities?

I imagine, in any case, it helps us sleep better.
