The Association at The Rose

Went to see The Association last night at The Rose in Pasadena.

It was a nice retrospective evening that took us all back to the simpler times of the late 60’s/early 70’s full of flower power, conscience-expanding drugs and anti-war sentiments. The fellow in front, Jim Yester, actually celebrated his 80th birthday with us! Can you imagine being 80 and still performing?

Naturally they ran through all of their famous hits, Windy, Cherish, Never My Love, Along Comes Mary, Six Man Band, and others, including a seven-song medley of songs from The Big Chill, and played a non-stop 110-minute set all told.

The crowd was only about 100 people but were nonetheless appreciative of their still-lovely vocal harmonies and the humorous and whimsical stories all of them told about those times and the great musicians they rubbed shoulders with made for an entertaining evening.
